My name is John E. Kerley, living in East Tennessee, and I am searching for the birth place of my great great grandfather Andrew Jackson Kerley (1823 - 1901) and his father, Adolphus Kerley (?). My intent is to trace my Kerley family back through North Carolina (possibly through Virginia and Massachusetts) to Scotland/Ireland, as this is the nationality passed down verbally from my Father, Glenn E. Kerley. And then further back to Denmark or Northwest France (Normandy) as there are references to those areas from other Kerleys.

According to the 1870 US Census, my g-g-grandfather Andrew Jackson Kerley (1823 -1901) was living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He was born in North Carolina, and married Mary Plemmons in Bryson City, NC having 6 children: Andrew J., Jr., Amner M., Martha J., William M., James D., and Nancy L. with all born in North Carolina except Nancy L. who was born in Tennessee in 1867.

I am trying to find Andrew and his father's birth place, marriage records and Kerley family location in North Carolina from about 1790 to 1860 before the Civil War. If you have any family records that might list Andrew, his father or his brothers, and their location, towns or counties, in North Carolina, I would appreciate the information for tracing my ancestors.

Please send to my email address: jkerley@planetc.com.
